Laryngitis is defined as an inflammation of larynx (voice box) due to overuse, irritation or infection generally associated with hoarseness or loss of voice. The larynx is the part of voice.Laryngitis occurs when your voice box (larynx) is inflamed due to overuse, irritation or infection. For example, if you've been rehearsing a speech or performance, your larynx can fail due to simple exhaustion.

The symptoms of Laryngitis are quite easy to identify. They include a dry throat or dry cough. The throat may be come sore and raw along with a tickling sensation in the area of the larynx.
There are plenty of causes of laryngitis. They are excessive smoking, coughing, alcohol consumption, an infection from a fungus, inflammation due to overuse of the vocal cords and a viral infection.Laryngitis can also result from strep throat or another bacterial infection, or from irritation caused by alcohol, very hot beverages, toxic vapors, dust, and tobacco smoke.

Smoking cigarettes/marijuana -- This one should be obvious...the smoke that passes through the vocal cords on their way to your lungs is extremely drying to the entire vocal tract. If you smoke, quit!

Cancer of the larynx is a relatively rare disease. In every 100 cases of cancer, only 1 is likely to appear as a laryngeal cancer.

Treatment for Laryngitis:

There are a variety of different treatments for laryngitis. Some of them are breathing in moist air, resting your voice, drink plenty of fluids, treat the underlying cause of laryngitis and suck on lozenges.

In order to soothe your throat, you might try gargling with some warm salt water. Mix an 8 ounce glass of water with a teaspoon of salt. Another thing you can do is drink some really weak tea, or try mixing some honey in some hot water, or add a little lemon juice to your hot water instead.

Essentials oil: Boil a pot of water and remove from the stove. Add 2 drops of chamomile essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil and 2 drops thyme essential oil. Make a tent over the head and the pot and inhale.

Antibiotics don't help viral infections or laryngitis a common result from a viral infection caused from a cold or flu. Recently, I suffered got the flu and suffered from a severe case of laryngitis.

Medicines used in this condition are Kanchnaar-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Maha-Manjishthadhi-Qadha, Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Pippali (Piper longum), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Behada (Terminalia bellerica), Sunthi (Zinziber officinalis).

Inflammation of the vocal cords may follow overuse of the voice, irritation by chemical substances, or infection. Men, who are more frequently subjected to exposure to irritant substances in their occupations and who indulge more than women in deleterious habits, suffer more from laryngitis than do women.

When it's a good day, we can get away with anything.when it's a bad day, we need our skills. Functioning is difficult when we're attacked by irritations, so remember, if you keep your body healthy, it won't succumb quite as easily to bacteria and viruses.
