Mole or nevus is a general term to describe several spots or blemishes that may occur on the skin. Moles are of vastly different kinds – in some people the moles may be of the color of the skin itself, while in others they could be red, tan, brown or even black.
Moles are pests that inhabit all parts of the United States. They are burrowing insectivores about the size of a chipmunk. There are about 30 species of moles ranging from 4" to 9" in length.
Because different people have different skin, and some are more sensitive and prone to scarring than others, there can be no 100.
Sometimes moles become disturbing when they appear on the unappealing spots. Unsightly moles that develop on face affect one's self esteem. Moles that grow on the crease are found to be bothersome due to constant strokes against the skin. In these cases, mole removal is the only solution.
Adults normally have over 20 moles. If you have noticed those moles on your body, you would realize that over time, some have faded and disappeared, some have grown darker, while some may even have strands of hair.
If a mole is not dangerous and does not have the signs for a typical moles, you can use a home mole removal kit. These kits work similar to the way that wart removal kits work. The slowly shrink the mole using a compound.
Facial moles can occur anywhere from the top of your forehead to your chin and your neck.
In most locations it comes down to personal choice whether you want a doctor or dermatologist to remove them, or whether you want to do it yourself.
Currently, mole removal is usually done clinically by your dermatologist or doctor at the clinic. You need to consult the dermatologist on your first visit to ascertain whether the moles are cancerous.
Mole Removal by Excision : A commonly used method to surgically remove moles is by cutting or shaving out the mole using a scalpel, followed cauterizing (burning) the wound to stop the bleeding. Stitching of the wound is usually performed for the removal of flat moles.
Clinical Removal: In cases where the mole may be deemed cancerous or where testing has revealed a malignant skin lesion, the mole will be removed out of necessity rather than for cosmetic purposes.
Another method used is to freeze the mole with liquid nitrogen or some other freezing application. This kills the mole cells. Cauterization of the mole works the same way but uses an electrical current to destroy the cells.
Mole cancer signs do not always come from a mole. Melanoma also arises even without the presence of a mole. Melanoma can arise within atypical mole, congenital mole or ordinary benign mole.
Some normal moles that look like cancerous moles are blue nevi. The coloring of these moles often gets them confused with cancerous growths.
There are also some signs that need immediate medical attention such as the appearance of mole at past age twenty, itchy skin, surface is oozing or bleeding, skin is inflamed, skin is scaly or crusty, or it takes a form of a sore that does not heal.
